The trick

Magnets, not magic.

The base holds the moon about a centimetre in the air and spins it a full 360°. Power reaches the LEDs wirelessly, so there's no cable to the sphere — just a moon, turning.

Does it really float?

Yes. Place the moon on the base, lift it slowly to the balance point and let go — it hovers and rotates. The manual shows the two-second technique.

Is it safe near children?

The base is low-voltage and the moon is light. Keep the base on a stable surface; the magnet is strong enough to pull the moon back if it's nudged.

Can I run it all night?

Yes. It draws about as much as a phone charger.
